Forming part of a wider refurbishment project of the Bloomsbury Theatre, the project involved the creation of an independent new studio theatre beneath the theatre’s main stage, together with new WC’s and foyer spaces. The new 100 seat studio theatre provides a new venue to host a wide variety of activities and performances ranging from lectures, music recitals, rehearsals, standup comedy and film nights. Supported by a new bar, green room/changing rooms and foyer space, the combination of spaces has provided the University with a flexible suite of spaces.

Thedesign approach took its cues from the existing building, where exposed board marked reinforced concrete, fair face brickwork and troughed concrete ceilings provided a robust aesthetic. In response new bars were formed from precast board marked concrete, new services exposed and specific elements executed in finer oak joinery.
