Hammersmith Flyover

London Festival of Architecture 2012

Paul Murphy Architects are one of the founding members of West London Link Design, a consortium of nine local architectural practices established to push the debate forward on the future of the Hammersmith flyover. Resurrected as part of the 2012 London Festival of Architecture, the consortium (WLLD) have suggested a new tunnel to replace the crumbling flyover, and working with international, Hammersmith based tunnel engineers, Halcrow, propose a new tunnel from the Hogarth roundabout to Earls Court. The removal of the flyover would create a ‘chain of opportunities’ allowing the reconnection of Chiswick and Hammersmith with the river, through a linear park, supported by commercial and residential developments to improve the quality of the environment.
