Open City's Architecture 2016

Churchill Gardens Primary Academy

Paul Murphy Architects volunteered in the Open City’s Architecture in Schools programme where we worked directly with Churchill Gardens Primary Academy (year 6) in order to contribute in engaging and inspiring young people to learn more about architectural design. The project brief for the students was to ‘’Design your own inhabited bridge - how would you choose to inhabit a bridge in London?” and our role was to help the teachers and the pupils to develop their own ideas and take architecture from the city straight into the classroom. The programme included an evening training session, a building visit with the pupils at the Tate Modern Museum and a practical classroom workshop where we worked directly with the pupils and helped them express their ideas by sketching and produce models of their final designs. Our participation in the programme appeared to be very successful with some innovative and impressive ideas from the pupils.
