Paul Murphy

DC Cabe Built Environment Expert
Grad DipArch (Dist), DipArch RIBA

Paul founded the company in 2007 and is responsible for the creative and strategic direction of the practice and has a passion for design.

Paul is a qualified architect with over 25 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors and has worked on a diverse range of projects ranging from £80k to £80m, designing for a broad range of building types, involving master planning, new facilities and working with existing buildings.

His experience encompasses education, healthcare and laboratory facilities, commercial and residential projects. Paul has a particular interest in the development of project briefs and in exploring how design can improve and enhance the experience of the built environment. This reflects a deep understanding of both the subject and the desire to engage with multiple stakeholders who share a vested interest in the design and quality of the built reality.

Paul was originally trained with the Government’s Property Services Agency (London Region) working on a number of the key historic buildings in Whitehall.  Following graduation, he initially worked with Barrie Todd Architects, Newenham Mulligan Associates and Avanti Architects. Paul was invited to re-establish the London office of Barrie Todd Architects in 1994, becoming a director in 1997 and equity partner in 2001 before setting up Paul Murphy Architects.

Paul was educated at the Polytechnic of the Southbank, (now London South Bank University) and the Polytechnic of Central London (now University of Westminster), becoming a member of the RIBA in 1990.

Paul was elected secretary of Architects for Health in 2009 and has taught at London’s South Bank University at diploma level and is a visiting critic to the degree course.
