We reconfigured an existing teaching laboratory to create a new student common room for a new, high profile undergraduate liberal arts course. The course aimed to give students the opportunity to create their own bespoke degree programme, incorporating both arts and sciences subjects and enhance the link between disciplines.

Reflecting this new approach, we designed a fresh and innovative interior and our design provided a range of individual, group and collaborative study and social areas to allow students to relax and interact. The design features a new slatted oak ceiling, purpose designed joinery and an interactive/media wall incorporating write-on glass and large computer screen.

This common room skilfully combines a light contemporary and informal feel with an excellent atmosphere for study and thought. BASc students have the luxury of a spacious and colourful common room in which to relax, work and play. It forms the central hub of student life.
