The project involves the extension of the existing school accommodation in Lennard Road to provide a new two-storey teaching facilities for the Harris Aspire Academy Bromley, and the re-design of the existing sport fields to provide an all-weather mini Hockey Pitch and two hard surfaced Netball Courts.
After a number of options considered it is proposed to extend the existing facility with a new two-storey modular building to provide 12 new classrooms, administrative and other ancillary facilities. The new two-storey extension building will be linked at ground and first floor level to the existing building. The existing building will be partly extended at first floor level, to provide two new Science Prep Rooms and remodelled at ground floor level to provide a new dining facility. The massing and language of the new building is complementary to the existing building. The overall height of the new facilities steps down from that of the existing building.
The material palette includes a mix of self-coloured render and High Pressure Compact Laminates (Trespa Meteon or similar panels) cladding. The use of the self-coloured render gives a softer appearance to the building, and the laminated cladding provides a more robust low level finishes which also breaks down the surfaces treatment of the elevations. The external end wall of the stair enclosures will be clad in bricks to provide a hard surface to facilitate children’s ball games.
